The short version
There are no accounts, so there is nothing to sign in to and nothing to sign out of. Philly Transit Live does not build a profile of you, does not sell data, and carries no advertising.
Location
Location is requested only when you turn on a feature that needs it — centring the map on yourself, or finding routes and stops nearby. If you decline, everything else keeps working.
Your position is used to draw the map on your own device and to ask this site's API which routes and stops are close by. It is not stored, and it is deliberately kept out of request logs: the nearby endpoints take coordinates in a POST body rather than a query string, because query strings are written verbatim into server and CDN logs.
Coordinates are also rounded to four decimal places — roughly eleven metres — before they leave your device. That is finer than the search radius and finer than consumer GPS, so results are unchanged; the digits past it would only make a position more identifiable.
What is stored on your device
Your selected routes, your theme, and whether you have location sharing switched on are saved on your own device — browser storage on the web, the system preference store in the app. None of it is sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data, or deleting the app, removes it.
Other services
SEPTA data — vehicle positions, schedules and service alerts are fetched by this site's own server and passed on to you, so SEPTA's feeds never see your address.
Map tiles — the background map is served by Esri (ArcGIS) and loaded by your browser directly, so Esri receives your IP address and the tiles you look at. This is the one request the app cannot make on your behalf.
Analytics — Vercel Web Analytics counts page views on the website in aggregate, without cookies and without following you between sites.
Product analytics — PostHog records what gets used, on the website and in the app: a route added, a stop tapped, a toggle switched, a pin dropped, and which page you were on, including the map link with the routes, stops and any Explore pin in it. The routes and stop IDs in those records are public transit data. Each record carries a random identifier generated on your device so that your visits count as one person; it is not tied to an account, your phone, or your name, and deleting the app or clearing browser data discards it. Your position is never included, and your IP address is discarded by PostHog on receipt, so no record is stored with one.
